Making the College Admission Process about You

Senior high school me in Any Such Thing Goes

Greetings from sunny Southern California! My name is Jessica Frey (informally referred to as J Frey) and we am a Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission at USC. I was raised in Hollister, a farm that is tiny in Northern Ca who has no affiliation whatsoever with the clothing store. I attended a big public senior high school with over 3,000 students and somehow found my way to USC to study theatre. My hope is that through sharing my own experiences, I can give you some advice and help you feel at ease when you approach the school admission process.

Many of you visitors will be signing up to college it, and I want to make sure you know this is going to be all about you before you know. It might feel a little weird and selfish for anybody whom are always placing other’s needs before yours. But in order you belong and feel happy, you do need to make the college search process all about yourself for you to make an informed college list and end up at a place where.

I don’t know about you, nevertheless when I happened to be in senior high school I produced great deal of my decisions predicated on just what other folks were doing and thinking. It is cool to put on pants that are red? Okay, maybe I will go get that pair I ended up being eyeing at the mall last weekend. All the other children within my class are using to College XYZ? Maybe I should too. My counselor says I’d be good at engineering since I like my calculus class? I wonder though I have NO IDEA what being an engineer is all about if I should apply to engineering, even. They certainly were all genuine thoughts I had because well as many others during that anxious and stressful autumn semester of senior year.

Whilst it is very easy (and sometimes the best thing) for outside influences to shape your decisions, the college process must be one where you let your own thoughts and ideas navigate your alternatives. Listed here are three basic principles I think every highschool pupil should retain in mind they are going to apply to college while they decide where:

Focus on facts rather than opinions. Many individuals form opinions about different colleges and universities, but you should really give attention to your thoughts regarding the schools along with the information you see as you study the colleges that interest you. It is important that you are thinking about a university because they feature a thing that you need in your undergraduate experience- not just because other folks you know are fans of the college, or because of its well-known reputation.

Think on everything you want in a college experience, and apply to schools properly. This is the time for you yourself to think about just what a college campus should have to ensure that one to be a delighted and thriving student. Would you like to attend school in a big city or a college town that is rural? Would you like to study abroad in a country that is particular? What type of activities do you want to pursue outside of the classroom? Do you want to have the ability to the office closely with your professors? It has everything you’re looking for, add it to the list if you find a school you’ve never heard of but! It doesn’t matter if nobody from your family or school ever knew about the school just before your discovery. It could be a place where you can expect to have an enjoyable college experience.

Enjoy the search process! The process of developing your university list can be quite a daunting task, but it is also an experience that is enjoyable. This can be your opportunity to learn as much as you https://shmoop.pro/ can about the many colleges that are amazing universities across the country. This is your time for you explore the array that is wide of and look closely at the colleges you’re considering.

I actually don’t write this website to inform you should not listen to your parents, counselors, or peers. You might have wonderful resources at your disposal that offer great advice and understanding. Counselors find out about many different colleges and could be able to inform you more about those that meet your criteria. Your parents are going to be in a position to help determine which schools will financially be within reach. You just have in order to make sure their advice also aligns with what you want in an university experience.

Having said that, we did buy and totally rocked the pants that are red. We’ll admit if I could get in that I applied to a college I had no intention of attending just to see. I did get into the school, but during the end of the time that didn’t matter. It didn’t make me feel better about myself plus it was quite honestly a waste of the time and cash. But used to do follow my heart and became a theatre major instead of an engineer, and I’m so happy I did. More on that later on.
